A bright and sunny morning

tilidom file storage

How to get a lively mood and feeling full of happiness in the morning....
The Shins.
When I lived in Paris, I used to listen to it every morning, when the sun was shining. It was really great to begin the day.  Sometimes jumping on Sleeping Lessons .... After that, you are full of spirit !
Or Guy Béart too, making breakfast, washing the dishes, or cooking on the hotplates. The day seemed then like a nice spring day, clear and simple, with a fresh touch in the air.
And when it was still night when I woke up, it always was HF Thiéfaine's last album, Scandale Mélancolique (listen here ). Its atmosphere is so strange that it was making a transition between the sleep, the dream, and the waking. Waking up sleeping, or sleeping while waking up. Smooth transition, without any violent break.

Just like a woman

tilidom file storage

  "Nobody feels any pain
Tonight as I stand inside the rain
Ev'rybody knows
That Baby's got new clothes
But lately I see her ribbons and her bows
Have fallen from her curls
She takes just like a woman, yes she does
She makes love just like a woman, yes she does
And she aches just like a woman
But she breaks like a little girl.
    Queen Mary, she's my friend
Yes, I believe I'll go see her again
Nobody has to guess
That Baby can't be blessed
Till she finally sees that she's like all the rest
With her fog, her amphetamine and her pearls
She takes just like a woman, yes
She makes love just like a woman, yes she does
And she aches just like a woman
But she breaks just like a little girl.
It was raining from the first
And I was dying there of thirst
So I came in here
And your long-time curse hurts
But what's worse
Is this pain in here
I can't stay in here
Ain't it clear that.
    I just can't fit
Yes, I believe it's time for us to quit
When we meet again
Introduced as friends
Please don't let on that you knew me when
I was hungry and it was your world
Ah, you fake just like a woman, yes you do
You make love just like a woman, yes you do
Then you ache just like a woman
But you break just like a little girl.

Homemade burger

Looking at some cooking blogs, as I'm doing since a week, I found a recipe of homemade burger. It looked so tasty, that I wanted to try immediately. I had a lot to do this week-end, so I thought it'll be a good thing in the evening, since it was really quick. ("entre vous et nous, c'est une histoire de goût♩♪♫♬ ".................  sorry, it couldn't be helped). This insteresting blog is a Berry girl's one, (V) and the result is really yummy.
I made two versions. One "by night", colorful and fancy, and a plain one, that I wanted the most. Very appetizing with its natural and country look. Ingredients were typical ones, since with the minced beef, we use "Viande des Grisons" (a dried beef from the canton of Graubünden - we eat it a lot with  raclette), Reblochon (cheese from Savoie), onion, and I added tomato slices, browned in the frying pan with the minced beef. For the "by night" version, since I had vitelotte (a purple potato) and yellow turnip, I did chips - but in the oven, I prefer. And for the deco, fresh spinach and beetroot sprouts - a beautiful and magenta color. I only knew alfalfa and leek sprouts until now, but Saturday morning I came across them, and fell for the color....

And for today dinner, I made the plain version, with more cheese than in the recipe, and it was just perfect. If you want, you can find the recipe here (it's in french though). Next time i'll try to make the buns myself, it seems really easy, and with a good flour (half white and half whole wheat) it must taste even more yummy.

Baking

Here, I'm baking a cake almost every day. What I bake are new sorts of cakes, with "experimental" recipes. I find them looking at some interersting blogs. The first ones were related in Gloubiblog, recipes she was passing on or that she modified, in accordance with her gloubiboulga principe...
I tried two. One with crystallized fennel. It was so soft, it was an ovation. Soft, in texture and taste, due to the use of both olive oil and blond sugar - I must add that it was an AOC and medal oil, produced here in Provence, at Aix-en-Provence. Both children and growns up found it delicious, and my little neighbour - a lovely little girl - was totally addict. She ate slice after slice, greedily.

The crystallized fennel with vanilla. My favourite vanilla is the Tahiti's one, whose pods are really pulpy (thick?) and wet. The flavour and the fragrance can't be compared to the other vanillas, it's strong, spicy but so sweet. I first discovered them in a well-known parisian grocer's, Izrael, the Ali Baba's cavern for spices lovers, where you can find the subtlest and rarest ones - and the most expensive too..... But a Tahiti vanilla pod is the equivalent of several Madagascar ones, for example, so you only use pieces of your pod, and not the whole one.

Mmmmmmm. Just hot from the oven, it filled the air and was fragant with a good scent of  fresh  butter....  when there wasn't an ounce of ...... just oil only.......
("it filled the air and was fragant with a good scent of fresh butter".... I must say - well maybe there are beautiful english expressions for it - that I'm so disappointed with this translation. It 's so beautiful and literary in french when we use these expressions - specially for cooking scents. "Il embaumait et fleurait bon le beurre frais"......... for language lovers, you can only be upset when you can't translate it..... because it gives off immediately dream pictures in the head. It's very specific and the sound of the words contribute to it too. You miss something in english. Sad.)

"En habits de fête"..... (like we say in french :P)

So the same day, I also baked a chocolate cake, but in place of butter and flour, canned chickpeas mixed with milk were used. I love it a lot, really light. My neighbours' children don't really like chocolate cakes, so I can't tell, and they prefered the fennel one ; for my mother, there wasn't enough sugar. But the others who tasted it were addict, the parents, as well as my best friend, who previously visited me from Italy.

Now, let me introduce the third one. Found in another blog (les miam miam d'Annabel) With chestnut squash and orange........ I was really attracted. But I made two mistakes baking it. First, with my mother's oven, when you change the cooking program, it automatically puts on the last temperature used for this program..... I didn't know that, since I only have a little oven. And once I had put my cake in the oven, choosen program and temperature, I wanted to change the program......... so.......... 15 minutes before the end, I saw it was 240°C, and not 180°C like needed.............. Aarrrrghhh !!!!! it rose, at first, with the heat, but after that the excessive heat hardened it with a little crust, so it stopped to rise....   Luckily, I found then my second mistake, which corrected the first one. In fact not really corrected, but helped it to taste better. In fact, when I weighed the mashed squash, I went out to get soft brown sugar at my neighbour's... and I stayed there for an hour, drinking Rooibos tea, lefting the mashed squash in the scales. When I came back, I forgot that I had around 400g (well 360 I think) instead of 300.....
But as a result, it helped the cake to taste better, and to have a pudding texture. Hot, I found it rather good. The day after - today- it was really good, like a true chestnut squash pudding, with strong orange flavour. My neighbours were amazed, they were found of it. Their little girl, who was reluctant after hearing the word "chestnut squash", found it delicious. And they gave me all the chestnut squashes they had left, so that I could bake it again this week-end !!!!! But the same cake, the failure!  not the one I should have baked...... So i'm facing now a new and harder challenge, how to deliberately fail a cake...... Don't know if I can get the same result... it'll be the surprise !

Insomnia

Insomnia.
I was taking my train today to go to Marseille, but I spent a very bad night. First was an insomnia around 3 in the morning. So I heard music in order to calm down my fever. I choose this song, because in the evening a new friend of mine tweeted Petula Clark's songs. It made me remember of this one, composed by Burt Bacharach, which I find beautiful - I should say I don't like all Petula Clark, but a few ones are really great. This girl's in love with you is one of them.

The world of Yakult

Reading two sites I discovered recently, Kyoto Foodie and Bionic Bong, I just found randomly in the last a very interesting new (well, new for me), that Yakult exists too in different flavors - but only in Singapore, seems.  Orange, grape and apple. As you can see, the colors are beautiful.

But although I didn't try them, I think I prefer the original one. Its taste is so specific that I'd miss something if it was corrupted.
Well, do you know Yakult ? It's like "Actimel version japonaise"... only in the principe though. Because if Actimel seems like milk or liquid yoghurt, Yakult is everything but milky. It's very light, in consistency and taste, almost aqueous, with a really particular flavor - it can't be explained but tasted.... The fact is that I miss it so much. When I lived in Paris, I was really addict. I discovered it first in "La Grande Epicerie de Paris" (the grocery store of the Bon Marché). It was really a miracle at that time .... - but a really expensive one...... (You bet, imported from Japan and sold in La Grande Epicerie !). But after that, the Champion (well, it was still Champion and not "Carrefour City'...) at Cardinal Lemoine started to have it, so it was great.
(picture from STOP! Look, Listen)
The bottle, very small, a litlle translucid and a little opaque, is as refreshing as the drink - yes the great caracteristic of Yakult is this very refreshing side, as if a river or a brook was flowing gently in your mouth. It's evanescent.
Anyway, when you see this bottle, open, you want to drink it, it's impossible to resist. I'm sure you feel the same. Look at the rim of the neck of this bottle...  You want to drink it, right ?
And for the Brazilian people (ahahaha ;) ) it seems (thanks Google) that there is even a brazilian bottle !!!
But it's a pity. I'm actually looking at the european site, http://www.yakulteurope.com/, and you can find it all over in the other countries (yes in Italy too ! - smile), but in France, only in Paris..... ?????? but... why that ??? french discrimination, I protest. (in the site, you can click on your country if you want more informations). I forgot, Yakult has sugar, but from this site, it seems you can find it in light version - I don't guarantee the taste, I don't know.
It's been a long time since I discovered them in my student years, must have been around 2002 I guess. At the same time, and the same day, I remember I have bought  - still at La Grande Epicerie - spanish yogurt with pieces of Aloe vera. All these things were very new at that time, not like today. And they were really really good. The design of the yogurt too, very appealing. I am pretty sure they were spanish (there were also spanish yoghurt like Yakult or Actimel, with strawberry flavor), but I can't find it on internet. I only found the ones by Emmi, a swiss brand.

I think they must taste good too, since this brand is really good.

There is a Yakult vending machine too.... with Yakult quietly wainting in their field. It must be the Yakult paradise. If I could have one which dispenses yakults through the workings of the Holy Spirit (I found this translation in a Larousse online, but I don't know if it's good or not, and if it really exists in english. It's a french sentence "par l'opération du Saint-Esprit")....

To finish with Yakult, you can even find ice cream. By Yakult, like this
 (from DeeCoded via Google Images)
or in other countries, for example

(from the blog i-first person singular)

Oh, I forgot to show you Yakult in their wrapping
(from R.I.P Diet via Google Images)
Here the flavored ones, but, the amazing one are the original, in their very long pack
Sorry, I didn't find a really satisfactory picture for the originals, and since I can't buy them, it can't be helped. The pack are with 7 bottles.

Hope you'll become addict too, and your intestinal flora too....
But like a Facebook group says , "Shirota strain ? Who cares! I drink Yakult because it tastes good !"

Hello everyone !
I wish you an happy new year 2011. May your dreams come true.
Like every month, i wanted to put some monthly wagashi, to illustrate this new year, but i couldn't find a January wagashi that pleased me. And since it's winter, I thought of showing you instead wagashi wooden molds. They are used for a particular type of wagashi, the "higashi" (dried/hard wagashi).

Illustration from the blog ii-ne-kore
http://ii-ne-kore.blogspot.com/2010/01/traditional-wagashi-molds.html

All of them are always beautiful, and can be used in decoration, like we do in France with our old butter molds.

I found it in this blog, Tokyo Jinja, but it seems it's been taken from a book Japan: The Art of Living : A Sourcebook of Japanese Style for the Western Home, by Amy Katoh.
Hope I'll find some when i'll be in Japan.

May 2011 be as beautiful & delicious as a wagashi.
Since I just noticed that I forgot to display the December wagashi, I'll use it for this New Year, this so beautiful camellia flower. Hope your year will be like that, velvety, smooth and fluffy, but with great events, like the neat folds of this camellia - both natural and aesthetic (in french i'd say "stylé") at the same time.

November Wagashi . Un wagashi pour ma maman

November Wagashi

Just for the eyes.....

You will survive my friend !

There were the ones who were ill, and the ones who are. There are also the young ones who are slaving and sweating blood and tears for their future now... And the ones lost in some unknown lane, deep in a dark and obscure forest, somewhere, at some fork of their life. For all of them, a bit of energy in this sunny day.

Corsican feelings

Well, I'm ill, it's cold, it's pouring down. It's sunday, and tomorrow the day for the deads.
Nice week-end...
So the evening is coming and with the night i'm huddling at home (-waiting for some event ... as my friends know ...). And I thought it'll be good to listen to the group "A Filetta" with such an atmosphere.
For the people who don't know, I'm Corsican  - as well as Provençal.  I don't forget Berry too - which is a beautiful land I came from by my father - but I didn't grow up there, so I naturally identify with those two countries, Provence and Corsica, and I strongly feel those roots in me, which I'm very proud of. I just spent a wonderful summer in Corsica, it was such a  marvelous experience and such an happy memory! So i'm really enjoying tonight listening to this music. And drinking corsican white beer ; more than a beer it's like drinking a cloud. So sweet, without any bitterness, i was amazed (- i tried the Pietra this summer, amber chestnut beer, really very good, but not such a thing like the Colomba). I'm just reading something about on the net :

"COLOMBA is a white beer of 5° alcohol strength, brewed from barley and wheat and flavoured with herbs from the Corsican maquis. Unfiltered, and bottom-fermented, it is naturally clouded because of the presence of yeast, but its taste and scent come from the heart of the maquis. A delicate blend of tree strawberry, myrtle, and juniper is prepared in a large tea-ball and left to infuse in the kettle while cooking the wort.
This exclusive recipe has received accolades from the specialists: voted best white beer in England for 2003 by the magazine GastroPub, or described as a headily scented white beer. A very refreshing beer, built on a perfect balance between freshness, bitterness and sweetness.” by Dominique Laporte - best sommelier of France for 2004.
COLOMBA, the beer from the maquis."

I'm with only two bottles left and I think I will not dare touch them too soon (when will I have some others ?!) !!!!!
Anyway, the music and the beer are cocooning me, and the evening became somewhat mysterious and beautiful, like you own the world, with the feeling that these low and deeps voices which resound deep within me,  are spreading through the night all over the world.
I was about to post only the last song, "Eo sai", which always gives me sobs in the voice... Such a beautiful deep love song. And when I drank my Colomba, I thought "Una tarra ci hè" will be in harmony with the weather and the reminiscences from Corsica.
In the end, I posted all the disc.............. !
As much as A strada di l'avvene e Canti di a terra è di l'omi by Canta u populu corsu give me of the feeling of spring, I image this disc with autumnal atmosphere.

 EO SAI
     "Eo sai saraghju qui

       UNA TARRA CI HÈ
"Una tarra ci hè per voi
Di lacrime d'invernu
D'ore chi varnu in darnu
E' di luce chi piglia fine
Toccu Sittembre, dolce cunfine.
Una tarra ci hè per voi
Di sarre impaurite
Di carghji annant'à e dite
omi in tana è frastoni
Quandu s'incroscanu i toni.
Una tarra ci hè per voi
Fragata da l'arsure
Brusgiata da e cutrure
Spusalizia d'Eternu
Trà notte è fede, è infernu.
Una tarra ci hè per voi
Di mare, monde è disertu
Di sfide è danni à ch'ùn hà apertu
E calle di l'amicizia
Una tarra ci hè... Divizia ! "

And it's my land,  the Castagniccia's land, huddling at the heart of Corsica.

"- Aime-moi tendre, aime-moi vrai...(...)

And for my friends and the people who can't understand french or need subtitles to make it easy, I found for you (yeah, i'm very nice...) the movie Le Grand Détournement-La Classe américainewith english subtitles. The first part is here. Enjoy!
(Well, it's not "World of pain!", but "World of shit!")

Voina i Mir - War and Peace

This playlist from War and Peace (the russian version by Sergueï Bondartchouk) has subtitles in english, so I hope you too will discover this great adaptation from War and Peace by Tolstoy.

O primeiro Canto

tilidom file storage

I woke up this morning with this song, and so did I spend the morning. It was so good, drinking my hot tea, Bamyan, with sun all over in my head, listening to this beautiful melody. It's Velha Chica, and it's by Dulce Pontes.
